Since much of WDRC's target audience was young men - whose interest in hot cars was only surpassed by their interest in young ladies - it was natural that Big D frequently promoted car-related events. Click here for more on WDRC's dune buggy, Little D.

Former WDRC morning man Bob DeCarlo provided this photograph from an unknown newspaper in connection with the August 22, 1970 grudge match at Stafford Speedway. He squared off behind the wheel against Dick McDonough, as they raced several laps before the cheering crowd.

Of course, grudge matches were virtually annual promotions tied in with the WDRC advertising department, headed by Dick Robinson. This image was shot in 1967 when WDRC personalities Joey Reynolds and Sandy Beach staged a grudge match at Connecticut Dragway (a Frank Marrotta Presentation).
